Job summary

Sunbelt Solomon in the United States is seeking a Principal Engineer to lead complex transformer design projects from concept to production, bridging engineering, manufacturing, and customer needs.

You will develop custom designs for distribution and power-class transformers, prepare BOMs and drawings, support manufacturing and testing, and drive improvements including aluminum conductor strategies and large substations (138 kV, 650 BIL).

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering is required.
• 5+ years of experience for Principal Engineer level.
• Proven design experience with distribution or power transformers.
• Experience with industrial power products and helical power designs.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and AutoCAD.
• Ability to read drawings, technical documents, and detailed instructions.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to apply sound engineering judgment to solve problems in standardized situations.

Responsibilities

• Develop custom designs for distribution and power-class transformers meeting requirements and standards.
• Prepare BOMs, drawings, and material quotations for various teams.
• Support manufacturing and testing with questions and test follow-ups.
• Drive design optimization and aluminum-conductor strategies.
• Lead development and implementation of Large Power Class Substation Transformers (138 kV, 650 BIL).
• Analyze proposals, specifications, and concepts to determine feasibility.
• Apply advanced engineering principles to plan, coordinate, and recommend solutions.
• Monitor production schedules and manage workload to meet deadlines.
• Review and approve engineering changes; update production files as needed.
• Support inventory reduction by using surplus materials.
• Review vendors for technical suitability and quality.
• Provide engineered solutions, assist with troubleshooting, and summarize root-cause findings.
• Promote and uphold safe engineering and manufacturing practices.
