Job Summary

Under the direction of the Child Development Supervisor, the Lead Teacher will deliver high-quality education programs to our community of children and families. Work with the Supervisor to implement curriculum based on best practice standards while ensuring that your classroom meets DHS standards and Head Start education performance standards, as well as other standards as appropriate. Coordinate and communicate regularly with all staff and consultants providing services regarding the individual needs of each child. Responsible for the integration of services for families in the classroom, home, center, and community.

Essential Functions
  • Implement a curriculum based on best practice standards in collaboration with the child development supervisor.
  • Ensure classroom compliance with DHS standards, Head Start education performance standards, and other relevant standards. Maintain a high-quality educational and childcare environment.
  • Maintain progress notes and electronic data on children’s emotional, physical, social, and intellectual development.
  • Coordinate and communicate with staff and service providers regarding the needs of each child and family.
  • Hold at least three center-based family/staff conferences per academic year and prepare for these through regular care coordination with relevant staff.
  • Provide home-based services as needed, including a minimum of four home visits per month, with at least two visits per family throughout the year, preferably with the family worker.
  • Engage in weekly individual and peer supervision sessions.
  • Provide training and supervision to teacher assistants, fostering a supportive environment for professional growth.
  • Mentor on-site to ensure adherence to best practices and standards, modeling effective curriculum and classroom management.
  • Serve as a peer mentor to newly hired Lead Teachers.
  • Complete 30 hours of relevant professional development annually, including coursework in early childhood education areas.
  • Promote diversity, equity, and inclusion within the team and the broader agency.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Associates degree required; Bachelor’s or Master’s in Early Childhood Education/Child Development preferred. RIDE certification is preferred. Must be able to organize activities, establish supportive relationships, and provide developmentally appropriate experiences. Basic computer skills are required. Flexibility and ability to work across multiple sites are essential. Proven community interaction skills are necessary. Must maintain CPR and First Aid certifications and provide all licensing documentation within 30 days of hire. A reliable vehicle, valid driver’s license, and auto insurance are required. Must pass background checks.
