Job summary

The Principal Systems Engineer at Leonardo DRS Naval Power Systems leads design and development of complex power electronics systems for naval applications. You will review customer specs, define architectures, and produce technical docs and budget estimates for proposals.

You will mentor engineers, drive risk retirement strategies, verify performance via simulation and lab tests, and ensure end-to-end traceability using RTMs across large multi-disciplinary programs.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or equivalent.
• Master’s degree preferred for advanced design roles.
• 10+ years of detailed design experience in power applications.

Responsibilities

• Review customer specifications and requirements, focusing on cost as a design variable.
• Define architecture of complex power electronics systems, drives, and UPS.
• Lead creation of system-level technical documentation and budget estimates for proposals.
• Verify performance via simulation, analysis, and laboratory testing.
• Develop and manage RTM-based design requirements with end-to-end traceability.
• Provide technical leadership on large projects and coordinate engineering teams.
• Mentor engineers and support technical reviews to ensure rigor and consistency.
