Job summary

Siemens Healthineers in Palo Alto is seeking a Principal System Architect to define the architecture for an investigational Photon FLASH radiation therapy platform intended for clinical trials. This role bridges clinical needs with technical software and hardware development.

You will translate emerging FLASH science into an integrated system spanning treatment planning, radiation delivery, imaging, controls, workflow, and data systems, collaborating with clinicians, physicists, KOLs, and ARPA-H

Qualifications

• Ph.D. in Physics, Medical Physics, Biomedical Engineering, Systems Engineering, or Electrical Engineering.
• 10+ years of experience developing complex medical devices or regulated healthcare technologies.
• Ability to transfer clinical needs into technology requirements with courage under uncertainty.
• Strong systems engineering background and leadership of multidisciplinary product development.
• History of leading architecture decisions across software and hardware domains.
• Deep understanding of radiation therapy treatment planning and delivery systems.
• Experience with medical device risk management and regulatory design controls.

Responsibilities

• Define the overall architecture and technical roadmap for the Photon FLASH ecosystem.
• Translate radiobiology and clinical requirements into system requirements and features.
• Lead system-level decisions across treatment planning, delivery, controls, and workflow.
• Guide development of FLASH planning and delivery capabilities balancing needs and safety.
• Lead system-level risk management, hazard analysis, and design trade-offs.
• Ensure alignment with FDA design controls and applicable standards.
• Collaborate with clinicians, medical physicists, KOLs, and ARPA-H stakeholders to shape use cases.
