Job summary

UPMC Passavant in Pittsburgh's McCandless location is seeking a Full-Time Lead Surgical Technologist to support the Operating Room. You will supervise surgical technicians, assist surgeons, and ensure aseptic technique and safe handling of instruments throughout procedures.

This role requires completion of a formal surgical technician program, a minimum of 4 years OR experience, and CST or Tech in Surgery-Certified credentials.

Qualifications

• Completion of a formal surgical technician program.
• Minimum 4 years OR experience.
• Advanced knowledge of at least 3 surgical specialties.
• Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) or Tech in Surgery-Certified (TSC).
• BLS/CPR within 30 days of hire.
• Act 31/33/34 and FBI clearance with renewal.

Responsibilities

• Supervise day-to-day operations of the surgical technicians.
• Lead on daily shifts to resolve questions or issues.
• Teach both skill and theory to new employees and students.
• Assist in supervising use of supplies and equipment for patient care and safety.
• Ensure medications are labeled and handed to surgeon per policy.
• Coordinate scheduling of procedures under case scheduling process.
• Promote aseptic technique and safety in the OR.
• Precept students and new staff during surgeries.
• Assist in passing instruments and managing sterile supplies during operations.
