Job summary

UPMC is seeking a Lead Surgical Technologist to join a high-performing surgical team in the OR. You will work alongside the circulating RN and team to deliver safe, efficient care across procedures, serving as the lead resource for technologists during shifts and mentoring new staff.

The role supports 24/7 coverage with rotating shifts, requiring strong teamwork, ongoing education, and attention to patient safety. A formal surgical tech program and OR experience are expected.

Qualifications

• Minimum 4 years of operating room experience.
• Formal surgical technician certification (CST/TSC) required.
• Strong leadership and mentoring mindset.

Responsibilities

• Serve as lead resource for surgical technologists during shifts.
• Provide real-time guidance, troubleshooting, and support to staff.
• Precept and mentor new employees and students.
• Facilitate ongoing education and in-service training.
• Coordinate day-to-day workflow and case scheduling.
• Liaise with Sterile Processing to ensure equipment readiness.
