Placements24 seeks a Lead Subsurface Geoscientist for a fully remote role in the Oil & Gas sector. You will lead multidisciplinary teams, interpret seismic data, and shape exploration and development strategies to de-risk prospects and optimize resource assessments.

The ideal candidate holds a Master’s or PhD in Geophysics/Geology with 10–12 years of progressive subsurface experience, plus expertise in seismic interpretation, petrophysics, and geological modeling, and strong remote leadership

• 10–12 years of progressive subsurface geoscience experience in exploration and field development.
• Proven seismic interpretation (2D/3D), petrophysics, and geological modeling expertise.
• Demonstrated ability to lead and mentor multidisciplinary teams.

Responsibilities

• Lead interpretation and integration of seismic, well log, core, and other subsurface data to characterize reservoirs and identify targets.
• Develop and refine advanced subsurface models (structural, stratigraphic, petrophysical).
• Provide geological and geophysical input for prospect generation, risking, and economic evaluation.
• Collaborate with reservoir, production, and drilling engineers for a unified subsurface view.
• Oversee QA/QC of geophysical and geological data acquisition and processing.
• Mentor junior geoscientists and promote best practices.
• Develop and implement innovative subsurface characterization techniques and uncertainty assessment.
• Present findings and recommendations to senior management and stakeholders.
• Stay abreast of cutting-edge geoscience technologies and subsurface imaging.

Key Responsibilities

Requirements

• Master's degree or PhD in Geophysics, Geology, or a related Earth Science discipline.
• Minimum of 10-12 years of progressive experience in subsurface geoscience, with a significant focus on exploration and field development.
• Proven expertise in seismic interpretation (2D/3D), petrophysics, and geological modeling.
• Demonstrated ability to lead and mentor multidisciplinary technical teams.
• Strong understanding of petroleum systems, basin analysis, and structural geology.
• Proficiency in industry-standard geoscience software suites (e.g., Petrel, Kingdom Suite, Hampson-Russell).
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills.
• Exceptional communication, presentation, and stakeholder management abilities, crucial for remote leadership.
• Experience in de-risking exploration and development assets.
• Must be legally authorized to work remotely for a South African-based company.
