Job summary

Basin Electric Power Cooperative seeks a SUPERVISOR, SYSTEM PROTECTION in Williston, ND to lead technicians in protecting high voltage substation systems. You will oversee maintenance programs for relays, SCADA, and control circuits while ensuring safety and regulatory compliance.

Responsibilities include supervising staff, reviewing engineering drawings, coordinating construction activities, and acting as on-call liaison for abnormal conditions.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (ABET-accredited) or related field with 4 years of system protection experience.
• Associate’s degree in Electronic Technology with a 4-year System Protection apprenticeship program.
• High school diploma or GED/HSED with 9 years of EHV experience as a System Protection Technician.

Responsibilities

• Supervise System Protection Technicians and manage performance.
• Promote safety culture and ensure compliance with health and safety practices.
• Plan and oversee preventive maintenance for substation protection and control equipment.
• Provide technical guidance in maintenance, testing, and calibration of protection systems.
• Develop and manage weekly, monthly, and annual maintenance schedules.
• Oversee new substation construction, commissioning, and checkout activities.
• Review drawings and update as-built documentation for substations.
• Maintain substations, control houses, and related facilities.
• Serve as primary on-call contact for abnormal protection conditions.
• Coordinate with internal/external partners for compliant, efficient work.
• Coordinate HVDC tie operations where applicable.
