Job summary

Sargent & Lundy in the United States is seeking a Lead Substation Physical Engineer to guide the physical layout and design of transmission and distribution substations within our Electric Grid Infrastructure Services unit. You will lead conceptualization, work planning, and project execution with a team of engineers and designers.

This role emphasizes solving complex design issues, preparing clear reports and deliverables, and ensuring client requirements are met in the company’s formats.

Qualifications

• BSEE from ABET-accredited electrical engineering program.
• 10+ years experience in the physical layout and design of Transmission and Distribution Substations.
• Knowledge of physical design techniques, tools, and principles for technical plans, blueprints, drawings, and 3D models.
• Ability to relate equipment to a technical design and apply engineering science effectively.
• Ability to prioritize work and manage multiple projects under budget and time constraints.
• Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills.
• Experience in reviewing design drawings created by others.
• Proficiency with MS Office applications.

Responsibilities

• Lead project conceptualization, work planning, and execution for distribution and transmission substation projects.
• Collaborate with engineers and designers on detailed electrical design and project management.
• Investigate, troubleshoot, and solve a wide variety of design issues.
• Prepare reports and deliverables in client-ready formats (Facility Studies, General Arrangement, Equipment Plans, etc.).
• Travel to client sites as needed.
