Job summary

Westwood Professional Services, Inc. is seeking a Lead Physical Engineer to lead substation design for renewable energy projects. You will mentor a small design team, coordinate across disciplines, and ensure compliant, high-quality deliverables from concept through construction.

You will oversee General Arrangements, grounding plans, and primary equipment specifications, while collaborating with project engineers to meet stakeholder requirements and schedules.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from an accredited program.
• 7-9 years of work experience in substation design and engineering.
• Strong understanding of electrical systems, grounding, and clearance standards.
• PE License required.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Familiarity with industry standards and codes.
• Experience with major substation equipment and 3D design tools.

Responsibilities

• Lead the substation physical design efforts for large renewable energy projects.
• Provide leadership to a team of 3-5 engineers/designers and coordinate with other disciplines.
• Develop design deliverables: General Arrangements, Plan/Elevation views, grounding, and equipment specs.
• Coordinate procurement, vendor drawings, and construction support.
• Mentor junior staff and ensure quality and compliance with codes.
• Maintain coordination with TP/discipline leads and travel up to 10%.
