Job summary

Hanson Professional Services Inc. is seeking an experienced Electrical Engineer specializing in Substation Design to support power delivery projects for utility, municipal, and industrial clients. This senior role requires a PE license and extensive HV substation experience.

You will lead design teams, review calculations, coordinate with protection, SCADA, and field teams, and help develop scopes, estimates, and schedules. Travel to site may be required.

Qualifications

• Professional Engineer (PE) license required at hire.
• BS in Electrical Engineering or related field.
• Minimum 8 years of experience in substation or power delivery engineering.
• Experience with electric utilities, transmission and distribution, and power industry clients.
• Strong understanding of substation equipment, protection philosophies, and utility standards.
• Ability to lead technical tasks and coordinate multidisciplinary teams.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design of new, expanded, and upgraded substations (69kV–500kV).
• Develop layouts, bus configurations, grounding, and raceway/cable schedules.
• Perform electrical calculations: ground grid, short-circuit, relay coordination.
• Prepare drawings, specifications, design reports, and material lists.
• Coordinate protection, control, SCADA, and communications with other teams.
• Select and integrate breakers, transformers, relays, and protection schemes.
• Provide project leadership, QC of drawings and calculations, and risk identification.
• Mentor junior engineers and support scope, cost, and scheduling decisions.
