Job summary

Hanson Professional Services Inc. is seeking an experienced Electrical Engineer specializing in Substation Design to support power delivery projects for utility, municipal, and industrial clients. This senior role requires a PE license and 8+ years of substation experience.

The candidate will lead design for 69kV–500kV substations, coordinate with protection and control teams, SCADA, and field staff, and mentor junior engineers across multidisciplinary groups across offices.

Qualifications

• BS in Electrical Engineering or related field.
• PE license required at hire.
• 8+ years of substation or power delivery engineering experience.
• Experience with electric utilities, transmission & distribution, and power industry clients.
• Strong understanding of substation equipment, protection philosophies, and utility standards.
• Proven ability to lead technical tasks and coordinate multidisciplinary teams.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design of substations typically ranging from 69kV through 500kV.
• Develop and review layouts, configurations, grounding, protection, and cable routing.
• Provide electrical calculations including ground grid, short-circuit, and relay coordination.
• Prepare drawings, specifications, reports, and material lists.
• Coordinate with protection, SCADA, and field teams to ensure design intent.
• Mentor junior engineers and collaborate with civil/structural teams.
