The University of Michigan Health-West is seeking a Lead Certified Sterile Processing Technician to supervise SPD Technicians, coordinate decontamination, sterilization, and instrument preparation, and ensure adherence to hospital policies and patient safety. The role requires leadership, strong communication, and a commitment to quality in a fast-paced OR support setting.

Evening shift with on-call rotations, and collaboration with the SPD Manager and Surgical Services to drive quality

Qualifications

• Requires High school diploma or GED and Sterile Processing Technician Certification.
• Endoscope Reprocessing Certification or equivalent within 6 months of hire.
• 4 years of Sterile Processing experience required.

Responsibilities

• Oversee SPD Technicians' work assignments on shift.
• Manage workflow and ensure completion of tasks.
• Precept new staff during orientation.
• Assist in orienting SPD staff on new systems and procedures.
• Prioritize tasks and communicate next-day surgery needs.
• Demonstrate leadership and effective interdepartmental communication.
• Rotate through SPD stations and maintain throughput.
• Ensure proper decontamination and sterilization of instruments.
• Assemble and package instrument sets per standards and maintain records.
• Inventory stock and coordinate with Purchasing as needed.
• Adhere to hospital policies and quality standards.
