Job summary

University of Michigan Health-West is seeking a Certified Sterile Processing Technician I for the Sterile Processing Department. The role supports decontamination, inspection, assembly, sterilization and storage of instruments, with oversight of sterilization equipment and daily BI/Bowie-Dick testing.

Evening shift, 40 hours per week, with on-call rotation for weekends/holidays. Under supervision, you will ensure compliance with standards, maintain accurate records, and assist in inventory

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Current Certified Sterile Processing Technician certification required.
• Proficient with MS Office and data-entry web apps.
• Ability to read and follow instructions for cleaning/sterilizing proprietary instruments.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Must work with urgency while maintaining accuracy.
• Adhere to all rules, guidelines and standards of practice.

Responsibilities

• Complete all tasks at each SPD workstation.
• Prioritize workload per department needs.
• Clean and sort soiled instruments and equipment per standards.
• Operate washer, cart washer, ultrasonic cleaner, scope reprocessor, sterilizers, and computer.
• Record BI and Bowie-Dick test results daily with tracking software.
• Assemble instrument sets per counts and manufacturer instructions; inspect instruments.
• Notify SPD/OR staff of missing information and support on shift handovers.
• Monitor inventory levels and assist with stock management.
• Keep the SPD clean and organized.
• Perform other duties as assigned by SPD leadership.
