Job summary

University of Michigan Health-West is seeking a Lead Certified Sterile Processing Technician to supervise SPD Technicians on their shift and coordinate activities across decontamination, assembly, sterilization, high-level disinfection, storage and distribution of instrumentation.

The role requires strong leadership, adherence to sterile techniques, and ability to work with urgency while maintaining accuracy. On-call and overtime rotation may be required, with weekend holidays rotating as needed.

Qualifications

• Requires High school diploma or GED or equivalent.
• Current Sterile Processing Technician Certification is required.
• Certification for Endoscope Reprocessing or Instrument Specialist required or obtained within 6 months of hire.
• 4 years’ prior experience in Sterile Processing is required.

Responsibilities

• Oversee work assignments of SPD Technicians on shift and may schedule in response to ill calls.
• Oversee workflow to ensure completion of all work.
• Precept new employees during orientation; may delegate this to others.
• Assist in orientation of SPD staff on new systems and procedures in coordination with SPD Manager and Surgical Service educator.
• Prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and manage shift work for upcoming surgery schedules.
• Communicate effectively with SPD Manager, surgery department, and staff; demonstrate leadership.
