Job summary

Benchmark Space Systems seeks a Lead Spacecraft Systems Engineer to establish and lead our Spacecraft Systems Engineering function from design through verification and delivery.

You will own system-level trades, requirements tracking, verification planning, and interface documentation across multiple spacecraft programs, coordinating with vendors and internal teams. The role demands an experienced technical leader shaping the vehicle-level integration strategy.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of experience working on space vehicles in a systems engineering or adjacent role
• Experience leading small engineering teams in aerospace or related environment
• Experience with defining system-level requirements and verification approaches
• Deriving requirements, maintaining traceability, and coordinating across disciplines
• Integrating COTS or external components into a flight vehicle and assessing vendor data
• Coordinating program management, engineering, operations, and customer needs

Responsibilities

• Establish spacecraft systems engineering practices, artifacts, and review expectations
• Own system-level trades, requirements tracking, verification planning, interface documentation, and system budgets across spacecraft programs
• Define acceptance criteria for vendor data vs. independent analysis or test with verification credits
• Evaluate COTS components against program requirements and environments
• Build and mentor a systems engineering team as programs scale
• Maintain Benchmark’s reputation for honesty, integrity, accountability, and transparency
