Job summary

Vast is seeking a Design Reliability Engineer to lead technical reviews and drive the reliability and qualification of flight systems for artificial-gravity space habitats. Based in Long Beach, you will guide design reviews, oversee test campaigns, and foster cross-functional collaboration to ensure safe, robust engineering outcomes.

You will champion engineering standards and develop templates, checklists, and tools to accelerate decisions while managing risks across the station and vehicle

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Systems Engineering, or related field.
• 7+ years of experience in responsible engineering, design ownership, systems integration, test engineering, or reliability-focused development.
• Experience conducting design reviews, qualification reviews, or major change assessments.
• Strong communicator and collaborative leader with high emotional intelligence, diplomacy, and influence.
• Resilient, curious, and committed to continuous learning in fast-paced environments.

Responsibilities

• Lead technical reviews shaping artificial-gravity habitat designs, guiding milestones and risk gates.
• Oversee qualification and test completeness for flight systems and reliability.
• Identify risks in test campaigns and help teams converge on safe, resilient solutions.
• Guard and improve engineering standards, guides, and review templates.
• Build tools and automation to enable design trade-offs and rapid risk assessment.
