Job summary

Billtrust is seeking a Lead Software Engineer in the United States to provide technical leadership across a cohort, guiding AI-assisted development and architectural decisions for scalable SaaS products. You will translate business requirements into technical specifications, mentor engineers, and drive AI workflow standards.

You will collaborate with Product Management and stakeholders, review AI-generated code and tests, and design REST APIs while ensuring performance and security at scale.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of software engineering, with at least 2 years designing and implementing enterprise SaaS systems.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent.
• Experience coding enterprise systems at scale in languages like C#, C++, PHP, Java, Node.js.
• Proficiency with HTML5, CSS/Sass, Angular, React, TypeScript/JavaScript and REST APIs.
• Strong SQL and relational databases (SQL Server/MySQL); familiarity with NoSQL.
• Experience with AI coding assistants (Claude Code, Codex, Cursor).
• Strong collaboration and communication skills; mentoring engineers and translating requirements into technical specs.
• GIT and cloud platforms like AWS or Azure.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical leadership within the cohort for AI-assisted development.
• Own specification quality for complex features and edge cases.
• Translate business requirements into detailed technical specs with PMs and stakeholders.
• Lead AI-assisted implementation and review AI-generated code and tests.
• Drive AI workflow standards and advise on tools/standards across cohorts.
• Create scalable software designs with a DevOps mindset.
• Design and implement REST APIs; support UI and backend services.
• Mentor engineers on AI tool usage, spec writing, and code review.
