Job summary

Aptiv in Troy, NY is seeking a Software Architect for Robotics & Drones to lead architecture for AMRs and drone platforms, spanning embedded software, sensing, autonomy, and cloud-connected systems.

You will collaborate with hardware and software teams to define interfaces, evaluate architectural options, allocate functionality, and ensure performance, safety, and scalability across robotics platforms. The role emphasizes CI/CD, automated testing, and cross-disciplinary teamwork.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Robotics, or a related discipline.
• 8+ years of experience in embedded software development.
• 3+ years in a software architecture, technical lead, or principal engineer role.
• Proven experience defining software architectures for complex embedded systems.
• Experience with Linux-based embedded operating systems and/or RTOS environments.
• Strong proficiency in C/C++.
• Experience with ROS 2, DDS, and robotics middleware.
• Familiarity with safety-critical development processes and ISO 26262 or equivalent.

Responsibilities

• Lead software architecture planning, design, implementation, and deployment for robotics and drone platforms.
• Define scalable, modular software architectures and interfaces.
• Collaborate with Agile teams to evolve platform architecture.
• Guide embedded software platforms and resource budgets.
• Develop and maintain software quality processes, CI/CD, and automated testing.
• Define interfaces between sensors, actuators, embedded controllers, and cloud services.
• Drive verification across hardware/software boundaries and ensure safety-critical considerations.
• Engage with customers, suppliers, and stakeholders to align requirements and roadmaps.
