Job summary

HMH in Houston is seeking an Automation & Control Engineer to manage the full lifecycle from bid support to reliable field operation. You will coordinate with engineering teams on upgrades, testing, and deployment readiness, and provide field installation packages and troubleshooting support.

The role requires a degree in Automation/Control and strong Siemens PLC/TIA Portal skills, with experience in drilling equipment.

Qualifications

  • Engineering degree in Automation and Control or related field.
  • Strong knowledge of Siemens PLCs, SIMATIC Manager, and TIA Portal.
  • Experience with Drilling and Pressure Control Equipment.
  • Strong analytical, documentation, planning, risk-management, and cross-functional coordination skills.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure bids are technically viable and supported by documented assumptions, risks, and mitigations.
  • Collaborate with Product and Application Engineering on upgrades, reviews, testing, and deployment readiness.
  • Provide installation and commissioning work packages, prerequisites, tests, backups, and field briefings.
  • Provide second-line technical support for complex installed-base issues and RCA support.
  • Drive continuous improvement by updating instructions, estimates, testing methods, and training.
  • Provide offshore or on-site technical assistance when required.
  • Support mechanical and hydraulic domain activities within HMH equipment portfolio.
  • Contribute to peers and other department activities as directed.

Summary

The role connects the full Services Engineering lifecycle, from bid support through reliable field operation.

Responsibilities
  • Ensure bids are technically viable, realistically estimated, and supported by documented assumptions, risks, and mitigation actions.
  • Work with Product and Application Engineering on upgrade development, design reviews, testing, deployment readiness, and CCN handling.
  • Act as the technical focal point for field deployment, providing complete installation and commissioning work packages, prerequisites, test procedures, backups, and field-team briefings.
  • Provide second-line technical support for complex installed-base issues, including evidence-based troubleshooting, specialist coordination, RCA support, and recurrence prevention.
  • Drive continuous improvement by converting project experience into improved work instructions, estimates, testing methods, training, and lessons learned.
  • Provide offshore or on-site technical assistance when required.
  • Support the department on activities related to mechanical and hydraulic domain applied in HMH equipment portfolio.
  • Contribute to support peers and other department activities as indicated by line manager.
Required Qualifications
  • Engineering degree in Automation and Control, Electrical, Mechatronics, Computer Engineering, or equivalent.
  • Strong knowledge of Siemens PLCs, SIMATIC Manager, TIA Portal, industrial networks, instrumentation, CIMPLICITY, motors, and variable-frequency drives.
  • Strong technical analysis, documentation, planning, risk-management, and cross-functional coordination skills.
  • Experience with Drilling and Pressure Control Equipment.

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis, now or in the future, without employer sponsorship for employment visa status.
