Job summary

HMH seeks an HSSE Intern in Houston, TX to support Health, Safety, Security, and Environment initiatives. You will help develop a digital system to assign and track compliance tasks and learn how to analyze HSSE data across local and global operations.

You will gain exposure to risk assessment processes, collaborate with colleagues from multiple functions, and communicate with Executive Leadership while advancing your professional skills in a multinational team.

Qualifications

  • Must be enrolled in degree program at start of internship.
  • Strong academic record (GPA 3.0+).
  • Engineering or Safety major preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Develop a digital system to assign and track compliance tasks.
  • Analyze HSSE data to identify trends and areas for improvement.
  • Establish a process to track HSSE inspections digitally.
  • Participate in the annual risk assessment review project.

As an HSSE Intern, you will support the strategic initiatives of the Health, Safety, Security, and Environment (HSSE) department. You will assist in enhancing compliance and driving continuous improvement at both local and global levels within the organization. This role provides an opportunity to gain high-level exposure to HSSE practices and contribute to the company's overall safety and environmental objectives.

The HSSE Intern will be responsible for:

  • Developing a digital system to assign and track compliance tasks
  • Analyzing HSSE data to identify trends and areas for improvement
  • Establish a process to track HSSE inspections digitally
  • Participate in the annual risk assessment review project

The HSSE Intern also will learn about the following:

  • Observe HMH's workplace culture by interacting with different functions
  • Exposure to health, safety and environmental programs and requirements
  • Develop professional communication skills with Executive Leadership
  • Experience working with a global, multinational team
Skills/Requirements
  • Must be enrolled at the time the internship commences and working toward completion of Bachelor's degree from an accredited university or college with Engineering or Safety majors preferred.
  • Minimum GPA of 3.0.
  • Good interpersonal skills to drive collaboration across multiple functions to achieve desired results.
  • Ability to work independently or within a larger team as required by the project and subsystem.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft office products, i.e., Outlook, Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication.
  • Strong work ethic and attention to detail.
Additional Information
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis, now or in the future, without employer sponsorship for employment visa status.
  • No relocation assistance provided.
  • Internship is 12 weeks, May 24 - August 13, 2027
  • Location Houston, TX
