Job summary

Yorkville CUSD #115 is seeking a Set Builder for the spring musical. You will construct flats, platforms, props and other scenic elements, interpreting design sketches and collaborating with directors, production team and student crew.

Ideal candidates have experience in scenic construction or theatre tech, can lift 50 lbs, read construction drawings, and guide students through hands-on building, rehearsals, and strike under tight timelines.

Qualifications

• Experience in scenic construction or theatre tech preferred.
• Ability to read and interpret construction drawings.
• Proficiency with basic power tools and hand tools.
• Ability to lift 50 lbs and work on ladders safely.

Responsibilities

• Construct flats, platforms, props, and other scenic elements using wood, paint, hardware, and other materials.
• Interpret design sketches and scale models to build set pieces that align with the artistic vision of the show.
• Supervise and mentor students in basic stagecraft and construction techniques.
• Ensure all set pieces are safe, stable, and meet school safety standards.
• Collaborate with the technical director on budgeting materials and managing build timelines.
• Attend production meetings, rehearsals, and all technical and dress rehearsals.
• Assist with strike after the final performance.
