Job summary

Yorkville CUSD #115 is seeking a Set Builder for the spring musical. You will construct flats, platforms, props and other scenic elements, interpreting design sketches and collaborating with directors, production team and student crew.

Ideal candidates have experience in scenic construction or theatre tech, can lift 50 lbs, read construction drawings, and guide students through hands-on building, rehearsals, and strike under tight timelines.

  • Ensure all set pieces are safe, stable, and meet school safety standards.
  • Collaborate with the technical director on budgeting materials and managing build timelines.
  • Attend production meetings, rehearsals, and all technical and dress rehearsals.
  • Assist with strike after the final performance.

SKILLS

Ability to manage and inspire high school students with varying levels of experience. Organizational skills and initiative for working with minimal direct supervision. Proven ability to manage a production calendar and meet hard deadlines. Must show evidence of strong leadership and organizational skills.

KNOWLEDGE

Previous experience in scenic construction, carpentry, or theater tech preferred, Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and scenic designs. Proficiency with basic power tools, hand tools, and construction techniques and strong organizational and problem-solving skills Ability to lift 50lbs and work on ladders or elevated platforms safely. Patience and enthusiasm for working with students in an educational settings. Commitment to the production calendar, including occasional evenings and weekends.

ABILITY

Establish and maintain positive and supportive working relationships with all stakeholders to be flexible and change as needed. A "team player" attitude to work closely with the entire production team.

Preferred Experience

Previous experience in educational theater or community theater production

Stipend Range

Head Level 4: $3,070 - $5,145 depending on qualifications
