Job summary

Berklee College of Music is seeking a Scenic Carpenter to support the Technical Direction team in building, installing, and dismantling scenery for Mainstage productions. The role requires safe operation of power tools, carpentry, and rigging, with responsibility to mentor student workers and maintain shop areas.

The ideal candidate will have a BA in Theater or equivalent experience and at least four years of theatrical carpentry, plus the ability to read construction drawings and cut lists.

Qualifications

• BA in Theater or equivalent work experience.
• Minimum 4 years experience in theatrical carpentry.
• Read and interpret construction drawings and cut lists.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Knowledge and experience with hardware and build techniques.
• Proficiency in wood construction and theatrical rigging.

Responsibilities

• Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Performs preventive maintenance on equipment.
• Mentor student workers as applicable to the tasks at hand.
• Maintain cleanliness and organization of the scene shop and associated workspaces.
• Participate in all load-ins, changeovers, and strikes throughout the contract period.
