Job summary

NC Department of Transportation is seeking an Engineering Technician III (S) to serve as lead project roadway/structure inspector in Division 13, Marion Resident Engineer’s Office. You will monitor contractor operations, review test reports, and handle contract administration tasks to ensure compliance with plans and specifications.

The role requires coordinating with engineers, contractors, and utility owners, mentoring lower-level staff, and maintaining safety on site.

Qualifications

Associate’s degree in Civil Engineering Technology, Survey Technology or related discipline with 3 years of progressive technician experience or equivalent.
Ability to legally operate a motor vehicle.
willingness to work nights/weekends as required and lift 50 lbs.
Experience inspecting highway construction and reviewing material/test reports to ensure compliance.

Responsibilities

Lead project roadway/structure inspection supporting engineers in highway construction administration.
Monitor contractor operations, review pay records, material received reports, and monthly estimates.
Train and supervise lower-level technicians and contract inspectors.
Coordinate with contractors, utility owners, and property owners to minimize delays.
Ensure compliance with DBE requirements and sediment/pollution permits; manage safety on site.
