Job summary

Planned Parenthood of Metropolitan Washington, DC (PPMW) is seeking a Lead Registered Nurse to oversee clinical operations across health centers in DC, MD, and VA. You will supervise staff, ensure adherence to protocols, and coordinate scheduling and supplies for safe abortion services.

Responsibilities include mentoring staff, performing venipuncture and sedation, and maintaining documentation in EMR systems. Travel to health centers and after-hours coverage are required.

Qualifications

• RN licensed in DC, MD, and VA
• Ambulatory surgical or abortion experience preferred
• Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills
• Ability to prioritize responsibilities and work both independently and collaboratively
• Commitment to compassionate, trauma-informed, patient-centered care

Responsibilities

• Provide support to nursing services as a team lead and assist center management in daily operations.
• Facilitate clinical oversight to ensure compliance with clinical protocols and regulatory requirements.
• Provide mentorship and coaching to staff.
• Maintain nursing supplies, equipment, and order medications.
• Provide nursing coverage across DC, MD, and VA to ensure continuity of care for abortion services.
• Deliver safe, compassionate patient care using abortion care protocols and emergency procedures.
• Review medical history and screen for contraindications to procedural abortion and sedation.
• Utilize EMR and practice management systems for documentation.
• Administer various medications per provider direction and protocol.
• Perform venipuncture, lab testing, and IV access; provide follow-up.
• Administer moderate sedation and monitor patients during procedures.
• Triage emergencies and implement emergency protocols.
• Support clinic flow, cleanliness, and readiness.
• Participate in ongoing learning and professional development.
• Demonstrate knowledge of quality standards and regulatory requirements.
• Participate in after-hours emergency call triage nursing.
• Perform ultrasounds for gestational dating.
