Job summary

Mercy Health is seeking a Clinical Unit Leader for the Progressive Care Unit (PCU) at West Hospital. The Lead RN/Charge Nurse coordinates patient care, collaborates with the care team, and pursues excellence in clinical practice and patient satisfaction.

The role requires RN licensure, BSN preferred, and strong leadership, communication and interprofessional collaboration skills. 36-hour work weeks with day shifts support hospital operations and patient care.

Qualifications

• BSN preferred.
• Current RN license in the state worked or covered by compact.
• BLS Basic Life Support preferred upon hire.
• Certifications may be required based on unit oversight (as applicable).
• 2 years nursing experience with 1 year in the acuity level of the desired area preferred.

Responsibilities

• Adjusts schedule and patient assignments to accommodate acuity and resources.
• Provides staff guidance and oversees unit in the absence of the leader.
• Maintains environmental safety standards and infection control knowledge.
• Communicates with patients and families about plan of care.
• Performs rounds to evaluate safety, quality and patient experience.
• Serves as resource to staff, patients and families; may be a preceptor.
• Leads interprofessional collaboration to ensure care coordination.
• Coordinates with other departments to resolve operational issues.
• Contributes to quality monitoring and performance improvement activities.
• Facilitates patient placement, admission, transfer and discharge processes.
• Mentors nursing and support staff; promotes teamwork and conflict resolution.
• Supports mission and policies of Mercy Health.
