Job summary

Capital One is seeking a Sr. Risk Manager, Controls to lead a team of 4–5 risk control advisors within Commercial Risk Control. You will oversee first-line control testing, advise on internal controls, and drive modernization via automation and AI-enabled monitoring.

You will collaborate with Commercial Line of Business leaders and governance forums, communicating risk insights with clarity and ensuring timely delivery of testing results and remediation plans.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree or Military Experience.
• At least 5 years of Risk Management, Audit, or Compliance experience.
• At least 3 years testing controls in Risk, Compliance or Audit.
• At least 2 years of experience in people management.
• At least 2 years of experience automating banking processes and controls.
• Master’s Degree (preferred).
• Risk Management Certification (preferred).
• 6+ years of experience with a Governance, Risk, or Control Application (preferred).
• At least 1 year of experience implementing AI-enabled solutions (preferred).

Responsibilities

• Directly manage, coach, and develop a team of 4–5 risk control advisors.
• Direct and oversee first-line control testing across the Commercial Banking control portfolio.
• Partner with Commercial Line of Business stakeholders to advise on the design, implementation, and optimization of internal controls.
• Contribute to forward-looking strategic initiatives aimed at modernizing the control environment through automation, data analytics, and AI-driven monitoring solutions.
• Identify control deficiencies, recommend remediation plans, and communicate risk insights and testing results clearly to senior leadership and governance forums.
• Outstanding written and verbal skills with a proven ability to explain complex risk concepts clearly and drive consensus across lines of defense and leadership levels.
• Driven to achieve short- and long-term goals in a fluid environment while maintaining rigorous attention to detail.
