Job summary

Steel America, a unit of Colonna's Shipyard, seeks a Lead Mechanic Rigger for the 2nd shift at the Norfolk, VA site. The role oversees a small crew, provides hands-on guidance, training, and ensures safe, efficient work to high quality standards.

The Lead will assist with planning, material requisitions, and daily production coordination, including performance coaching and reporting as needed. Occasional travel may be required.

Qualifications

• HS diploma or equivalent with 5+ years related trade experience.
• Experience operating overhead/mobile cranes and heavy equipment used in shipyard environments.
• Knowledge of safety standards and rigging procedures is essential.
• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, specs, and procedures.

Responsibilities

• Execute routine and non-routine production duties to support ship repair/ fabrication goals.
• Perform skilled tasks related to rigging, maintenance, installation, and construction activities.
• Assist management to coordinate daily production and ensure tool and procedure readiness for the crew.
• Mentor and coach team members; support schedule and resource planning.
