Job summary

The Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard seeks a Principal Specialist for Research Security & COI Management to provide strategic leadership and operational oversight of the institution’s COI and research security programs. This role reports to the Director and interfaces with Broad leadership, faculty, and administrative teams.

Responsibilities include managing COI disclosures, reviewing complex consulting agreements, and guiding export control/license coordination while ensuring regulatory

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree and 10+ years of related experience in research compliance, legal, or sponsored research; or Master’s degree and 8+ years of related experience, or PhD and 5+ years of related experience.
• 5+ years of leadership or mentorship experience required.
• Deep expertise in COI management and a strong working knowledge of Research Security and Export Control regulations (EAR/ITAR).
• Proven leadership, advanced negotiation, analytical rigor, and excellent communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Provide strategic leadership and oversight for the institution-wide COI program and review processes.
• Direct and mature the Research Security and Export Control functions, including guidance for project reviews and license coordination.
• Lead collaboration with OSR, Development, and OSAP to align compliance workflows with business development.
• Serve as a subject matter expert on federal regulations and help shape institutional policies and processes.
• Act as primary facilitator for COI and Research Security committees, setting agendas and ensuring policy implementation.
• Develop and deliver institutional training to foster a culture of compliance across the Broad community.
