Job summary

QBE North America is seeking a Lead Reinsurance Claims - Property in New York. This role manages assumed reinsurance excess of loss and proportional business, ensuring accurate reporting of all claims per contract terms.

You will lead a team of claims professionals, implement strategies for compliant operations, forecast activity, and maintain strong client relationships with insureds and providers. A tertiary degree and 5–10 years in reinsurance or insurance is preferred.

Qualifications

• Tertiary Degree or equivalent combination of education and work experience.

Responsibilities

• Support the implementation and communication of the Claims strategy to enable the delivery of overall business targets.
• Contribute to the development of appropriate strategies, processes, and procedures for the Claims operation to support the delivery of business targets.
• Assist in the forecast of Claims activity through analysis of business levels and knowledge of the Claims environment to support decision‑making.
• Develop and implement processes and procedures to ensure compliance with both statutory and corporate service standards and statutory regulations.
• Maintain efficient handling of own caseload to ensure the prompt, timely, and effective handling of Claims.
• Resolve customer service issues to ensure their prompt and timely resolution.
• Supervise a team of Claims staff to ensure the overall output and quality of the service provided by the team is within specified levels.
• Motivate and develop the team by demonstrating good leadership behaviours and through the use of management best practices, to enable the development of staff to support the achievement of business goals.
• Develop and maintain good client relationships with the insured, agents, service providers, and the general public.
• Ensure recoverable amounts are assessed and effectively followed up and approving significant claims within written authority levels.

The Opportunity

The purpose of this role is manage assumed reinsurance excess of loss and proportional business from QBE Reinsurance's Property, book of business, ensuring proper reporting of all claims following reinsurance contract terms.

Work Experience

Necessary Work Experience includes:

• Moderate relevant experience.

Preferred Work Experience

• Experience in handling property specific claims matters.
• 5-10 years experience of working within the Reinsurance/ insurance/legal industry

Qualifications

Necessary Qualifications include:

• Tertiary Degree or equivalent combination of education and work experience.

Compensation Package

The salary range for this role is provided above. This is the national range for location(s) listed. The salary offer will be decided based on the role's complexity, its location, and the candidate’s professional background, including their education and experience. Beyond the base salary, regular full‑time and part‑time employees will also be eligible for QBE’s annual discretionary bonus plan based on business and individual performance.
