Job summary

Amtrak is seeking a surveying professional responsible for overseeing track surveys, right-of-way mapping and related survey work on Amtrak properties. The role leads field activities, coordinates with Electric Traction, Signals and Communications, Structures, and other teams, and ensures equipment maintenance and accurate field notes.

The position will be based out of Wilmington, DE or Philadelphia, PA, and involves both field and office work with travel up to 25% and potential weekend hours.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required or equivalent combination of training, education and relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
• 6 years of prior relevant experience required.
• Licensed Surveyor preferred.
• 8+ years of relevant experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Supervises and/or performs highly technical survey tasks using mobile surveying solutions, robotic survey equipment, GNSS equipment, and digital levels; reviews field notes.
• Directs the layout of engineering designs in the field for use by construction and maintenance forces.
• Creates survey plans for transmittal to design team members and the public.
• Responsible for reviewing track and right-of-way surveys and verifying that the lines and grades of the proposed improvements are within the clearance envelopes and right-of-way boundaries.
