Job summary

ST Engineering MRAS in Maryland seeks a proactive Lead R&D Engineer to conceptualize, design, and develop innovative products, systems, or technologies from ideation through prototype and launch.

You will collaborate cross-functionally with product management, manufacturing, testing, quality, and external partners to translate concepts into verifiable designs, robust documentation, and scalable solutions.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Aerospace, Mechanical, Materials, Manufacturing Engineering, or related field.
• 5+ years of aerospace mechanical and structural design experience or equivalent.
• Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
• Ability to coordinate multiple activities, priorities, and workstreams.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Familiarity with mechanical testing and instrumentation.
• Familiarization with composite part design.
• Proficiency with MS Excel, PowerPoint, and engineering/project-management tools.
• U.S. Person status for export-controlled technology access.

Responsibilities

• Lead design and development of new products, components, and technologies from concept to commercialization.
• Conduct research to identify technical solutions and opportunities for innovation.
• Create prototypes, run experiments, and test to validate designs and performance.
• Develop detailed engineering documentation including specs, CAD models, drawings, test plans, and reports.
• Analyze data, interpret results, and iterate designs using best practices.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure manufacturability, regulatory compliance, and cost effectiveness.
• Define technology roadmaps and long-term R&D initiatives.
• Evaluate supplier capabilities and manufacturing processes for new designs.
• Communicate project status, risks, and insights to stakeholders.
