Job summary

The Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services seeks a Psychiatrist - Admissions to lead a Treatment Team and provide direct psychiatric care at Southwestern Virginia Mental Health Institute (SWVMHI). This physician will supervise advanced practice providers and collaborate with medical staff to maintain high standards of patient care.

The role requires Virginia medical licensure, DEA certification, and completion of a psychiatry residency.

Qualifications

• Licensed to practice medicine in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
• A current DEA certificate is also required.
• Completion of an approved residency program in Psychiatry is required.
• Either current BLS or ACLS certification is required. ACLS is required for those wishing to provide on call MOD coverage at night, weekends, or holidays.

Responsibilities

• The staff psychiatrist serves as the leader of a Treatment Team, provides direct medical and psychiatric care for patients assigned to the Treatment Team, and provides consultation to colleagues, supervision of nurse practitioners and/or physician assistants as requested, as well as participating in the Medical Professional Staff organization.
