Job summary

Western State Hospital in Staunton, VA seeks a psychiatrist to serve as Head of Treatment Team (HOTT). You will lead a multidisciplinary team and provide comprehensive psychiatric care in an inpatient forensic and civil commitment setting.

The role includes clinical oversight, teaching and supervision of trainees, and active participation in medical staff activities to promote patient safety and high-quality care. Virginia DBHDS offers strong benefits and relocation support.

Qualifications

• Medical degree and completed ACGME Psychiatry residency.
• Unrestricted medical license in Virginia or eligible before start.
• Current DEA registration or able to obtain before start.
• Extensive psychiatric knowledge with leadership and supervision skills.
• Ability to document accurately per CMS requirements.
• Strong administrative and cross-disciplinary collaboration skills.

Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive psychiatric care including assessments and psychotherapy.
• Lead the Head of Treatment Team and supervise multidisciplinary staff.
• Review and approve treatment plans and orders; supervise PMHNPs.
• Coordinate discharge planning with community mental health centers.
• Participate in medical staff meetings and quality initiatives.
• Supervise residents and medical students; contribute to training.
