Job summary

WSP is seeking a Protective Relaying Engineer - Lead Professional for our Seattle, WA office. Candidates near Denver, CO or Charlotte, NC will also be considered.

The ability to work remotely from a mutually acceptable location in the United States will be considered. You will lead design, engineering, and studies of protection systems for bulk power equipment including substations, transmission lines, generators, renewables, and distribution to meet client objectives.

Qualifications

  • ABET-accredited Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • 7–10 years of post-education experience in protective relaying for power systems.
  • PE license or ability to obtain one.
  • Occasional travel may be required depending on project needs.
  • Commitment to safety and company policies.

Responsibilities

  • Protective Relaying: Symmetrical component analysis, protection philosophy development, relay settings, and SCADA integration.
  • Protection Analyses: Electrical model development, short circuit, time-current coordination, arc flash, NERC compliance, and event analysis.
  • Leadership: Lead teams on client projects, provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers.
  • Data Acquisition: Onsite data collection and discussion of project specifics with clients.
  • Industry Standards: Knowledge of IEEE, ANSI, or NERC PRC standards.
  • Organized: Ability to adapt to varied project schedules and priorities.
  • Applicable software: Use of protection software tools (e.g., AcSELerator, ETAP).
  • Applicable hardware: Experience with SEL, GE, Siemens, ABB, Beckwith, RTDS.
  • Ethics: Responsible decision-making and adherence to policies.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as required.
