Lead Professional Coder
The Lead Professional Services Coder is a Health Information Management Professional with significant prior coding experience and a high level of proficiency. They are responsible for assisting the management team with daily coding activities, department priorities, initiatives, precepting new staff, suggesting workflow enhancements, resolving billing edits, and testing EHR updates. The Lead also collaborates with Coding staff, CBO, Providers, and Epic@Jeff to ensure accurate coding and timely completion.
* Interact with co-workers, visitors, and staff consistent with Jefferson's values.
Serve as a resource for:
* Lead with other departments to resolve coding and operational issues.
* Support staff during times of increased coding needs.
Perform ICD-10-CM / CPT coding and data abstraction with established accuracy and productivity rates.
* Act as a lead contact and resource for coding staff regarding questions and workflow.
* Address coding-related questions from departments such as CBO, Physicians, Finance, Compliance, or Payor Contracting.
* Support onboarding of new staff and provide ongoing education.
* Attend mandatory staff education and department meetings. Facilitate coding completion to meet KPIs and goals. Refer issues to supervisor promptly.
Qualifications include RHIA, RHIT, and/or CPC/CCS credentials, with a minimum of 10 years of coding experience in medical records. A Bachelor's degree in Health Information Management, Nursing, Business Administration, Healthcare Administration, or related field is preferred.
