Job summary

Yahoo is seeking a Principal Product Designer to lead visual craft and interaction excellence across Yahoo's consumer surfaces, translating concepts into polished, prototype-ready models using AI-assisted tooling.

You'll collaborate with Researchers, Product Managers, and Engineers to shape direction, mentor juniors, and present design rationale to senior stakeholders, all within a flexible hybrid work environment.

Qualifications

• 8+ years designing high-scale digital products.
• Proven experience using generative AI tools for prototyping.
• Expertise in typography, layout, visual systems and brand application.
• Ability to operate in an AI-augmented workflow.
• Experience across web and mobile surfaces.
• Strong communication with executive stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Lead design vision and interactive prototyping architecture across a broad portfolio of consumer surfaces.
• Craft visually distinctive interaction patterns that elevate Yahoo's brand and product experience.
• Evolve design standards and visual patterns across Yahoo News and related surfaces.
• Move quickly across multiple workstreams while maintaining quality and velocity.
• Use AI tools in combination with the design system to accelerate prototyping and exploration.
• Collaborate with Researchers, PMs, and Engineers to translate ambiguity into user-centered solutions.
• Partner with research teams to gather data-driven insights and validate decisions.
• Stay current on AI design tools and run experimentation pilots to improve systems.
• Mentor junior designers and raise the team's overall visual quality and fidelity.
• Present design rationale to senior stakeholders with clarity and confidence.
