Job summary

Yahoo Inc. is seeking a Principal Product Designer for Yahoo News to lead visual craft and interaction excellence across our consumer surfaces. You will create high-fidelity prototypes and translate ideas into polished models, working across sections like Yahoo News, Breaking News, and Topic pages.

In this AI-augmented role, you’ll push design systems forward, collaborate with cross-functional teams, and mentor junior designers to raise the team’s bar on visual quality and prototyping rigor.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of experience designing high-scale digital products across web and mobile.
• Proven experience leveraging generative AI tools to construct, test, and optimize high-fidelity interactive prototypes.
• Exceptional product design thinking, with deep expertise in typography, layout, visual systems, and brand application for consumer surfaces.
• Demonstrated ability to operate in an AI-augmented workflow, deploying AI generation vs manual craft as appropriate.
• Demonstrated ability to manage a broad, diverse surface portfolio without sacrificing quality or velocity.
• Excellent communication and negotiation skills, with a track record of presenting to executive-level stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design vision and prototyping architecture across Yahoo's consumer surfaces.
• Craft bespoke interaction patterns that elevate the Yahoo brand and product experience.
• Drive evolution of design standards, visual patterns, and interaction principles across Yahoo News surfaces.
• Move quickly across multiple workstreams, balancing velocity with quality.
• Collaborate with Researchers, Product Managers, and Engineers to translate concepts into usable solutions.
• Present design rationale clearly to senior stakeholders.
