Job summary

The New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene is seeking an Agency Attorney to assist the Chief Privacy Officer with day-to-day matters, prioritization, and legal assignments for the Privacy Unit. You will draft and negotiate data privacy and security agreements, vendor contracts, and policies to protect health information and ensure regulatory compliance.

You will advise on federal, state, and local privacy laws, assist in incident investigations, and provide practical legal counsel

Qualifications

• Admission to the New York State Bar; and either 2 or 3 below.
• 2. One year of satisfactory United States legal experience subsequent to admission to any state bar.
• 3. Six months of satisfactory service as an Agency Attorney Interne (30086). Incumbents must remain Members of the New York State Bar in good standing.

Responsibilities

• Assist the CPO in handling the day-to-day matters and priorities for the Privacy Unit.
• Draft, review and negotiate data privacy and security agreements.
• Draft, review, and negotiate vendor contracts for the agency.
• Support policies for data privacy and security.
• Assist investigations of security incidents and provide notifications to affected individuals.
