Job summary

New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene seeks an Agency Attorney to handle enforcement-related litigation and advisory work. You will represent the agency in hearings and trials, draft legal documents, and advise program areas on compliance strategies in a fast-paced public health environment.

You will coordinate with city and state agencies, maintain confidentiality, and travel to courts in NYC as needed. A strong research and writing background is essential for success.

Qualifications

• Admission to the New York State Bar and in good standing.
• One year of US legal experience after admission, or six months as Agency Attorney Intern.

Responsibilities

• Represent the agency at hearings, conferences and trials before OATH.
• Research and draft briefs, appeals, orders, motions, memoranda and other legal papers.
• Assess complaints with Department programs to determine if enforcement action is needed.
• Coordinate with programs and agencies to strengthen enforcement.
• Liaise with Law Department and other agencies.
