Job summary

The NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene seeks an Agency Attorney to serve as Deputy Privacy Officer within the Office of General Counsel. The role will advise on privacy, data security, and related regulatory matters, reporting to the General Counsel, Deputy General Counsel, and the Chief Privacy Officer.

You will draft and negotiate data privacy and security agreements, advise on HIPAA and privacy laws, support investigations, provide trainings, and help ensure compliant data handling

Qualifications

• Admission to NY State Bar and one year or more legal experience in privacy or related areas.
• Familiarity with data privacy and cybersecurity laws and standards.

Responsibilities

• Provide counsel on privacy and data security matters to IT and agency programs.
• Draft, review and negotiate data privacy and security contracts and vendor agreements.
• Develop and implement policies for privacy and data security.
• Support investigations and notifications related to security incidents.
• Deliver privacy trainings to staff and represent the agency in privacy-related meetings.
