Job summary

Powell Industries is seeking an experienced Lead Project Engineer (Power Systems) to lead complex power system studies, substation design, and EPC bid support. You will mentor junior engineers, promote best practices, and drive technically rigorous deliverables across projects for customers in the power industry.

You will oversee analyses, validate models, and coordinate with project teams and clients. Travel up to 25% may be required as you define scopes, estimate work, and address engineering

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering (ABET‑accredited).
• Professional Engineer (P.E.) license is required.
• 6–14 years of experience in power system analysis, transmission/distribution, or utility/industrial studies.
• Hands‑on experience with power system modeling/simulation tools (SKM, ETAP).
• Strong knowledge of power system standards, codes, and industry practices.
• Advanced analytical and problem‑solving capabilities; ability to make sound decisions with limited information.
• Experience reviewing technical studies and guiding other engineers.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint; strong written and verbal communication.

Responsibilities

• Perform and review power flow, arc‑flash, short‑circuit, EMT, harmonics, and techno‑economic studies for transmission, distribution, load, and generation projects.
• Develop and refine models, run simulations, troubleshoot issues, validate results, and produce reports.
• Support substation design, EPC bid development, project scoping, estimating, and technical planning.
• Monitor work, communicate project risks and resource constraints, and collaborate with leads to resolve challenges.
• Mentor engineers in modeling, simulation, reporting, and client communication.
• Improve scripting, automation, workflows, and technical training resources.
• Safeguard technical and commercial information; follow secure data practices.
• Contribute to technical innovation and a learning‑focused team environment.
