Job summary

W. G. Yates & Sons Construction Company is seeking a highly skilled Estimator III (Power Generation) to support our Yates Industrial Division in Birmingham, Alabama.

This senior estimator leads cost estimation for power generation projects including CCGT, CHP, boilers, HRSG, and BOP, with proficiency in Timberline (Sage Estimating) and digital takeoff tools. A bachelor’s degree and 7–10+ years in heavy industrial estimating are required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering or construction management or equivalent.
• 7–10+ years of progressive cost estimating experience in heavy industrial construction.
• Experience estimating power generation projects ranging from $5M to $100M+.
• Proficiency in Timberline and other heavy industrial estimating software.
• Strong skills in Excel, digital takeoff, and BIM/CAD data integration.

Responsibilities

• Prepare detailed multi-discipline estimates (lump-sum, unit-price, EPC, GMP, conceptual budgets).
• Quantify and price heavy mechanical equipment installation and BOP systems.
• Analyze drawings, P&IDs, specs, and owner solicitations for cost accuracy.
• Lead bid packages, subcontractor quotes, and vendor negotiations.
• Collaborate with PMs, schedulers, safety, and engineering to align estimates.
