Job summary

The J.M. Smucker Company invites applications for a Controls Engineer Leader at our McCalla, AL facility. This role provides leadership for power and control systems, equipment specification, maintenance, troubleshooting and reliability improvement across the plant.

You will partner with the site Technical Manager and Plant Engineer to optimize processes, ensure regulatory compliance, develop technicians, and implement MES data conditioning and KPI reporting using Proficy and related tools.

Qualifications

Associates degree or higher required.
4+ years of relevant controls experience.
1 year of leadership experience.
5 years of manufacturing experience.
Strong knowledge of machine and/or process control hardware and software including Allen Bradley PLC and Rockwell FactoryTalk.
Effective presentation, verbal, and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

Serve as primary administrator and troubleshooter for plant power and control systems.
Collaborate with site Technical Manager and Plant Engineer to build sustainable processes and onboarding systems.
Ensure compliance with local and national regulator codes; maintain safe practices.
Validate operating data from PLC into Proficy or MES systems; support data conditioning for analysis.
Own sustainability metering equipment and use power data to reduce consumption and costs.
Design and implement machine control and process automation applications including HMI screens and KPI development.
Create system maps, sequences of operations, and PLC logic for new equipment.
