Job summary

Humana Inc. is seeking a Lead Full Stack Engineer to own the NBA platform’s orchestration and state machine, built in Node.js/TypeScript on Temporal.

You will lead a small team, write code, and ensure durability, correctness, and timely action delivery across the member journey. This remote/hybrid role involves coordinating with decisioning, activation systems, and the platform team, plus strong focus on observability, reliability, and scalable delivery mechanisms.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in computer science or relevant area.
• 6+ years of full stack software engineering experience, with at least 1–2 years in a tech-lead or senior-lead capacity.
• Strong Node.js/TypeScript backend experience building production services.
• Hands–on experience with workflow orchestration platforms, with Temporal strongly preferred (or Cadence/Step Functions/Airflow).
• Strong distributed systems fundamentals: event-driven, retries, idempotency, failure recovery.
• Experience designing Kafka producer/consumer patterns in production.
• Experience building reliable event delivery systems with Transactional Outbox or similar patterns.
• Experience operating cloud-native systems on Azure or equivalent with Kubernetes, CI/CD.
• Clear communicator able to surface architecture and risks to stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Pod delivery: end-to-end delivery for orchestration pod.
• Workflow orchestration: design durable, long-running workflows on Temporal in Node.js/TypeScript.
• Action delivery architecture: end-to-end delivery from decision publication to activation and receipt processing.
• Activation integrations: connect decisions to Adobe Experience Platform and Kafka outputs.
• Hands-on development: contribute code in Temporal workflows, Node.js services, and Kafka integrations.
• Technical decisions: architecture, state machine modeling, retries, idempotency, contracts.
• Distributed systems reliability: ensure exactly-once semantics and safe retries.
• Observability and operations: monitoring, tracing, alerting across pipelines.
• Team leadership: mentor engineers, code reviews, uphold standards.
• Cross-team coordination: surface dependencies and risks early.
