Job summary

Guardian Life in New York is seeking a Lead Platform Engineer to elevate the developer experience by building reusable platform capabilities, APIs, and tooling. You will lead with technical excellence across multiple teams and drive adoption of scalable solutions.

You will design and ship production-ready systems, mentor engineers, and partner with architecture and engineering leaders to reduce friction across the software lifecycle.

Qualifications

• 7–10 years of professional software engineering experience.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
• Demonstrated experience designing, building, and operating production software systems.
• Strong software development skills in C#, TypeScript, Java, Python, Go, Kotlin, or similar.
• Experience building and supporting production services, APIs, and automation solutions.
• Proven ability to drive technical initiatives end-to-end.
• Experience collaborating across multiple engineering teams and boundaries.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Experience creating technical documentation and architectural designs.

Responsibilities

• Design and build reusable platform capabilities, services, APIs, integrations, tooling, and automation.
• Apply architectural patterns to deliver scalable, maintainable solutions.
• Contribute production-quality code and support deployment and adoption.
• Improve developer workflows and platform usability with reusable components.
• Lead strategic engineering initiatives from scope to production delivery.
• Develop implementation plans and coordinate dependencies across teams.
• Partner with application, platform, and architecture teams to identify challenges.
• Translate needs into technical requirements and recommendations.
