Lead Platform Engineer — Content & AI Systems

Job summary

Pearson is modernizing its content platform into scalable platform services. You will be a principal engineer leading hands-on design and implementation across UI, workflow orchestration, AI, backend services, and cloud infrastructure.

You will own multi-track delivery, migrations, and shared capabilities, while mentoring engineers and driving architectural discipline. A deep background in Java/Spring Boot, Node.js/TypeScript, React, and AWS is required.

Qualifications

• 12+ years building and operating production software, including 4+ years at staff or principal level or as technical lead
• Led a re-platforming or legacy migration of a production system with active users
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent combination of education and experience
• Full-stack depth in Java/Spring Boot, Node.js/TypeScript, and React with MongoDB and event-driven services behind APIs with many consumers
• Production experience on AWS (ECS Fargate, Lambda, S3, API Gateway) with observability, CI/CD, and infrastructure as code (Terraform)
• Wrote design documents and migration plans, explained tradeoffs to multiple stakeholders, and influenced without authority
• Experience with AI workflows, contract testing, and zero-downtime migrations
• Content platform or large-scale content/data migration experience would be a plus

Responsibilities

• Own technical plan and delivery for several technology tracks from design through launch
• Migrate large volumes of content and data with integrity and down-stream compatibility
• Develop shared capabilities and APIs for media handling, search, and AI content services
• Provide honest, costed views of technical debt and prioritization
• Be the technical point of contact for escalated incidents and drive RCA and fixes
• Ensure security and stability with upgrades, vulnerability remediation, and disaster recovery planning
• Set design patterns, tooling standards, reliability, observability, and performance
• Evaluate frameworks, tools, and vendors; pilot AI-enabled workflows and safe practices
• Run feasibility reviews for new AI capabilities and collaborate with partners on co-development
• Lead deep technical mentoring to raise the team’s ownership of systems
