Job summary

Thomson Reuters is seeking a Senior Platform Engineer to lead a Platform Engineering team that builds and operates core backend systems powering AI-enabled workflows. You will manage people, set technical strategy, and guide design and delivery of scalable services on AWS with Kubernetes.

The role emphasizes strong coding skills, distributed systems expertise, and robust CI/CD practices, with a hybrid work model and extensive benefits.

Qualifications

• 6+ years of professional software engineering experience with leadership experience.
• Direct team leadership including 1:1s, performance reviews, and career development.
• Strong Python (FastAPI or similar) or other backend language with distributed systems experience.
• Experience with PostgreSQL, Redis, API design, and AWS including Kubernetes (EKS).
• CI/CD pipeline engineering and progressive/safe delivery patterns.
• Infrastructure-as-Code practices for managing cloud infrastructure.
• Observability tooling (OpenTelemetry, Datadog) for production systems.
• Experience with LLM/Generative AI infrastructure is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Own people-management responsibilities for a team of platform engineers while remaining technically engaged.
• Set and communicate team-level technical strategy and roadmap.
• Guide backend and platform services powering AI agent workflows for reliability and speed.
• Steer CI/CD and progressive-delivery infrastructure for safe deployment.
• Ensure the cloud infrastructure is well-provisioned and IaC-managed.
• Champion scalable, reliable backend architecture across a microservices system.
• Drive cross-functional initiatives with product, applied-AI, and infra teams.
• Improve engineering practices: testing, observability, and on-call readiness.
• Maintain strong operational posture with monitoring and incident response.
