Job summary

Bass Pro Shops seeks a Principal Software Engineer to lead architecture for microservices and integration platforms, guiding teams toward scalable, secure solutions across the enterprise ecosystem.

You will champion cloud-native architectures, event-driven designs, and API-first approaches, mentoring engineers and driving DevSecOps and SRE practices. Strong cross-functional collaboration is required to modernize systems and accelerate product delivery.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related discipline.
• 10+ years of software engineering with 5+ years delivering distributed systems at scale.
• 3+ years in a Principal Engineer, Lead Architect, or equivalent leadership role.
• Deep expertise in microservices architecture and distributed systems design.
• Strong experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.
• Hands-on experience with Java, Kotlin, C#, Node.js, or similar languages.
• Expertise in RESTful APIs, GraphQL, API gateways, and API lifecycle management.
• Experience with event-driven architectures using Kafka, RabbitMQ, AWS EventBridge, etc.
• Strong understanding of Docker and Kubernetes; CI/CD and DevOps practices.
• Knowledge of security best practices, authentication, authorization, and Zero Trust.

Responsibilities

• Define and drive the strategic roadmap for microservices, APIs, integration platforms, and event-driven architectures.
• Lead architecture reviews and establish enterprise-wide engineering standards and best practices.
• Design scalable, resilient distributed systems for high transaction workloads.
• Partner with Enterprise Architecture and Cloud teams to align with business strategies.
• Evaluate new technologies and propose platform improvements for scalability and developer experience.
• Architect and evolve reusable platform services to accelerate development and deployment.
• Standardize service development frameworks, CI/CD, observability, and security controls.
• Establish self-service capabilities for teams to simplify onboarding and lifecycle management.
• Mentor senior engineers and drive DevSecOps and site reliability engineering practices.
• Lead modernization of monoliths into microservices and guide integration patterns.
